Dustin Forbes Hired as Play-By-Play Voice of Cowichan Valley Capitals:

(Forbes calling an SJHL game during the 2012-13 season)

The Cowichan Valley Capitals, along with 89.7 Sun FM in Duncan, announced yesterday that 2012 BCIT Broadcast and Online Journalism grad Dustin Forbes is their new play-by-play announcer.

Forbes spent last season as play-by-play announcer for the SJHL's La Ronge Ice Wolves before stepping down this past March to return to BC for family reasons.

Check out Dustin's new Capitals blog on the right side of the page.

Here's the release from 89.7 Sun FM:

The new voice of the BCHL’s Cowichan Capitals is Vancouver Island native Dustin Forbes!

Originally from the Comox Valley, Dustin grew up wanting to be a play by play guy and got his first shot at the age of 17 broadcasting for the Comox Valley Glacier Kings of the Vancouver Island Junior Hockey League while working for Vista Radio at 98.9 JetFM.

After two years with both the Glacier Kings and JetFM, Dustin went off to attend the Broadcast Journalism program at BCIT where he graduated alongside 89.7 SUN FM News Director Liz Craig. While attending school at BCIT, Dustin did the play by play for the Pacific Junior Hockey League’s Richmond Sockeyes for two seasons, along with covering the Western Hockey League’s Chilliwack Bruins and Victoria Royals.

Post graduation, Dustin worked as the Media Relations/Communications guy for the Victoria Shamrocks of the Western Lacrosse Association before heading off to La Ronge, Saskatchewan where he was the play play guy for the La Ronge Ice Wolves of the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League where he worked with now Cowichan Capitals Head Coach and General Manager, Bob Beatty.

Entering his sixth season of doing play by play, Dustin is extremely excited about the new challenge that lies ahead while bringing you every single Caps game this season live on 89.7 SUN FM.
