As host of the inaugural Western Canadian Cup next spring, the Nanaimo Clippers are building for a strong season, not wanting to back into the tournament as the hosts.
They added a big piece to their blueline today, acquiring 18-year-old defenceman Chris Rygus from the Maritime Junior Hockey League's Woodstock Slammers for future considerations. Rygus is massive at 6'3" and 209 lbs. plus he has 31 junior A playoff games, including six this past May in the RBC Cup.
He was in Clippers training camp this past week, Nanaimo play-by-play voice Dan Marshall confirmed to me that Rygus had permission from the Slammers to participate in hopes that a trade could be worked out.
Neither team has posted details on the trade on their websites, but it has been posted on both the BCHL and MHL websites.
