Cents Announce Car Wash Fundraiser, Recent Moves:


The Cents have come up with a very unique way to fundraise. They're hosting a FREE car wash on Sunday, September 19th at the Nicola Valley Memorial Arena. How the fundraiser works is that the team goes out to get pledges from the community and people donate by pledging an amount PER VEHICLE! So for example, if someone donates 25 cents per vehicle and the Cents wash 100 vehicles, that person winds up donating 25 dollars. I love it!

Merritt, BC – August 13, 2010

The Merritt Centennials would like to announce their First Annual FREE Community Car Wash fundraiser, Sunday, September 19th from 10 am to 4 pm at the Nicola Valley Memorial Arena parking lot.

“The entire Cents organization, from players and coaching staff to board of directors and volunteers, will wash as many vehicles as possible for free on Sunday, September 19th, with a goal of washing a minimum of 100 vehicles,” said Cents Marketing Manager Maddison Canuel.

“Starting Monday, September 13th, the organization will be canvassing the community for pledges for the car wash, so keep an eye out for us!”

Here's a summary of recent moves by ex-BCHLers:

G Torrie Jung (Nanaimo/Cowichan Valley, 2004-06) has signed a one-year deal with Laredo Bucks (CHL). Jung, who's from Nanaimo, spent last season with Edmonton Oil Kings (WHL), posting a record of 9-26-2-5 with a 3.51 GAA and a .892 save percentage. He joined Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs (CHL) after his WHL season ended last spring, but didn't play any games with them. . . .

D Matt Suderman (Surrey, 2003-04) inked a one-year contract with Dundee Stars (United Kingdom EIHL). The 27-year-old skated with HC Morzine-Avoriaz (France Ligue Magnus) in 2009-10, finishing with one goal and two assists in 21 games. . . .

D Sean Perkins (Vernon, 2006-07) is trying out with Odense Bulldogs (Denmark Oddset Ligaen). Perkins is from Commerce, Michigan and spent the 2009-10 season with Missouri Mavericks (CHL), Allen Americans (CHL) and Edinburgh Capitals (United Kingdom EIHL). He had two goals and seven assists in 25 games with Missouri, two goals and one assist in seven games with Allen, and four goals and three assists in 16 games with Edinburgh. . . .

F Mike Prpich (Penticton, 2000-01) has been released by KHL Medveščak Bears (Austria EBEL). He played 47 games with the club last season, winding up with six goals and two assists. . . .

D Brett Skinner (Trail, 2000-01) signed a one-year contract with HC Amur Khabarovsk (Russia KHL). Skinner had three goals and 25 assists in 73 games last season with Lake Erie Monsters (AHL). . . .

F Tyler Burton (Chilliwack, 2003-04) had his three-month try-out contract with Starbulls Rosenheim (Germany DEL) terminated due to a right knee injury that he hasn't fully recovered from. Because of the injury, Burton played just one game in 2009-10, with EC Hannover Indians (Germany Oberliga ESBG) scoring no points. . . .
