Cents Acquire Jones from Nanaimo:
New Cents defenceman Mitchell Jones (while with Penticton earlier this season)
Cents GM Tyler Forsythe made his first trade since joining the team today, acquiring defenceman Mitchell Jones (91) from the Nanaimo Clippers for defenceman Jake Baker (91). Jones was picked up earlier by Nanaimo from Penticton for future considerations. Word is that those futures are actually the completion of a previous trade between the Clippers and Vees.
Baker had requested a trade from the Cents last week after playing his rookie year and three games this season in Merritt.
Jones had been used in Penticton as both a defenceman and a forward, but word is he prefers to play on the blueline and had an excellent year with Richmond of the PIJHL last season, scoring 15 goals and 31 points in 46 games, good enough for fifth among all defencemen and first among rookie blueliners. In fact, eight of Jones' goals came on the power play. In the playoffs, the Delta product led all Sockeyes defencemen in scoring with nine points in 13 games, including six goals, one on the power play and two shorthanded.
Jones will practice with the Cents tomorrow and will be in the lineup against Salmon Arm on Saturday night.
